Sunday School for Grown Ups

Our sanctuary will turn into a classroom beginning January 5-26 at 10:30 a.m. First service will be at 9 a.m. with music and a message.

Consider it a 4-week crash course on important biblical topics that will leave you feeling wicked smart!!!

Why are we doing this?

The world has a problem.  

The big problem, according to God, is that we are naturally separated from him (Ephesians 2:3).  Our September Sunday school class, Wicked Smaaht, is trying to answer two questions: "why" and "what can we do to fix that"??  "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free," Jesus says.  Paul responds, "and so this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight" (Philippians 1:9).  One of the essential parts of growing spiritually is in fact growing out of the lies we have believed and into a new awareness and understanding (a "new life")!   We "fail" when we "do not know" (Matthew 22:29).  But, "we are confident of better things in your case--things that accompany salvation" (Hebrews 6:9), because "he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion" (Philippians 1:6)!  

Come Sundays at 10:30am to rediscover how biblical knowledge (also known as the gospel) sets us free!

Who is it for?

Anyone who is interested in digging a bit more into scripture. From longtime NECers to those new to church, we will deliver lessons that will intrigue, inspire and inform you.

How long will it be?

Expect each teacher to speak for about 30 minutes with time left for Q&A (see below!)

Will NEC Grow (the Sunday School) at 8 a.m. still occur during this time?

Thanks for asking. Since we are hosting Sunday School during second service, we will pause NEC Grow until October 6.

Will there be time for Q&A?

Yes! Each ‘teacher’ will build in time for Q&A so be curious!

Will there be childcare?

Yes, Kids Zone will serve as a space for kids ages 2 and up to hang out while you learn. We just ask that you pre-register so our volunteers are ready!

Will there be homework?

Our teachers may give you a homework assignment but participation is always optional!

Will there be food?

Yes, we will be serving some breakfast/brunch treats from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and of course there will be coffee!

What if I just want to go to second service?

Barring any technical issues, we will be streaming a recording of our 9 a.m. service in the Dugout for 10:30. You’re welcome to enjoy!

Will the 9 a.m. service be the usual service?

Yes, there will be music and preaching. Please join us!
